More than a year before the launch, another hot rumor has emerged about the “iPhone 17 Pro Max” — this time, again starting from the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo [@mingchikuo]. He outlined two specs that are expected to be unique to the model, which is expected to continue to distance itself from the base Pro model in terms of features.
The first exclusivity would be the presence of 12GB DRAM memorya new feature that would aim to improve the device’s performance in artificial intelligence. Contrary to what was recently speculated, Kuo claims that the “iPhone 17”, the “iPhone 17 Slim” and the “iPhone 17 Pro”, in turn, should only have the 8GB supposedly necessary for Apple Intelligence.

The other exclusive novelty pointed out by Kuo would be an updated cooling system, which would combine the technology of steam chamber (vapor chamber) e graphite sheets. Meanwhile, the other models mentioned above should continue to use only the latest technology for thermal management.
Among the new 2025 iPhone models, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature the following specifications:
1. 12GB of DRAM (while the ultra-thin iPhone, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and SE4 will have 8GB). Enhanced on-device AI capabilities will likely be a big selling point for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The Pro Max currently accounts for nearly 40% of new model shipments, making it the most significant contributor to Apple’s revenue and profit among hardware products. The differentiation strategy of providing the best specs (plus a larger screen size than the Pro) for the Pro Max is expected to continue.
It’s no surprise that Apple has been adopting different strategies for its most expensive iPhone model. According to Kuo, the “Pro Max” accounts for almost 40% of new model sales, making it the device that contributes most significantly to Apple’s revenue and profit.
Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the only one to gain a camera with up to 5x optical zoom. For this year, rumors indicate a possible increase in battery energy density in the “iPhone 16 Pro Max” — which, if it happens, should considerably increase its autonomy.
