iPhone 16 may gain exclusive capacitive button to activate cameras

In addition to the action button, the new members of the iPhone 16 line may hit the market with a new capacitive button to activate the cameras. The news was revealed this Tuesday by people who have access to Apple plans.

Codenamed “Project Nova”, the new button should be located next to the on/off option, and it will be the only capacitive button present on the body of the iPhone 16 line.

Capacitive buttons, unlike mechanical buttons, do not move when pressed. Instead, the button detects pressure and touch, providing haptic feedback through the use of motors.

According to these sources, the iPhone’s capacitive button will be able to take a photo when pressed quickly or provide focus adjustments when pressed harder, for example.

Unlike the action button, this new dedicated camera option will be present across the entire iPhone 16 line. In other words, this will not be an exclusive feature of the more expensive models.

Apple has been testing this new button on prototypes with eSIM-only support.

For now, the company does not comment on the matter. Therefore, we emphasize that everything must remain in the field of rumors.

Still, if the project is approved, this new capture button should be one of the highlights of the iPhone 16 line, which should also have a new chipset, small design adjustments and larger screens (6.3 and 6.9 inches).
