Written by Muhammad Ayman Tuesday, November 21, 2023 02:00 AM Many of the differences between the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro are due to the new camera systems. As the name suggests, the Pro devices offer the most advanced cameras but the 15 and 15 Plus still have distinct systems. However, What’s new this year is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max stands alone as the only model to feature 5x optical zoom, according to 9to5mac. iPhone 15 Camera VS 15 Pro Camera Rear Cameras All iPhone 15 devices come with a new 48-megapixel main rear camera, next-generation selfies with focus and depth control, and Smart HDR 5, however, the 15 Pro and Pro Max feature the most powerful camera systems In addition, there is a new change this year that sees the 15 Pro Max getting a more capable camera with the telephoto lens getting 5x optical zoom, and this lens is limited to 3x for the 15 Pro like the 14 Pro, 15 and 15 Plus get 2x optical zoom. The main cameras on the 15 Pro and Pro Max also have more powerful sensors although all iPhone 15 devices now feature 48MP sensors, specifically, these are 2.44µm quad-pixel sensors for the Pro devices and 2µm quad-pixel sensors for the 15 and 15 Plus. This year, all iPhone 15 models support 24- and 48-megapixel “ultra-resolution” capture, and there’s a new 48-megapixel HEIF Max camera that lets users capture detailed photos without the large file sizes of ProRAW (the iPhone 14 Pro is also getting HEIF Max ). Another notable new feature for the Pro models is the option to quickly change (and adjust the default setting) the different focal lengths of the main camera – 24, 28 and 35mm, and for the 15 Pro Max, you have a 10x zoom range from 0.5x to 5x – at focal lengths from 13mm to 120mm , and capabilities such as macro photography and Apple ProRAW support remain exclusive to the Pro models. TruDepth selfie camera Apple’s front-facing TrueDepth camera on the iPhone 15 gets a host of upgrades over the main rear camera. The only feature missing from the iPhone 15 vs 15 Pro models is ProRes support. For the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, ProRes video recording jumps from 4K30 to 4K60, and support for USB-C 3 at 10Gbps speeds on the Pro models means the ability to shoot ProRes directly to external drives. Log encoding is also new to video recording on iPhone 15 Pro devices, providing more flexibility and scope for color grading and visual effects. Another new feature for Pro users is support for Academic Color Encoding System (ACES), and Apple says the 15 Pro devices are the first smartphones in the world to support this standard.
