iPhone 15 switches to USB-C, new iPhone SE 4 sticks to Lightning-ePrice.HK

Last week, the European Parliament approved by a large margin that digital products sold in the 27 EU countries, including mobile phones, tablets, wireless headphones, cameras, etc., need to start using USB Type-C as a charging interface by the end of 2024. The outside world generally believes that Apple needs to make changes to its products. In the latest issue of Bloomberg’s “Power On” column, author Mark Gurman disclosed Apple’s plans.

The iPad 10 will switch to USB-C by the end of the year

Gurman said in the column that Apple has been preparing in order to meet the new regulatory requirements of the European Union. He said that the tenth generation of the entry-level iPad released before the end of the year will switch to USB-C, and that all iPads will no longer use the Lightning interface. As for the iPhone 15 series released in 2023, it will also switch to USB-C, but the fourth generation of iPhone SE launched in March 2024 will maintain the use of Lightning, because the new law will be officially implemented at the end of 2024, and the first batch will switch to USB-C. The C’s iPhone SE is not believed to be launched until 2025 or 2026.

Mac accessories, AirTags to follow next year

In the column, Gurman also mentioned that several Mac computers are expected to be updated next year, when Apple will introduce new versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad that use the USB-C interface, and the AirPods wireless headphones will also use USB-C. C port for charging. Although Apple switched to USB-C in response to EU requirements, Gurman believes that USB-C applications in Apple products may be shorter than 30-pins or Lightning, because Apple’s future is wireless charging, which they showed as early as 2017. The AirPower wireless charging pad was used, but the technology at the time failed to realize this plan. In the next few years, the iPhone or iPad will be gradually changed to inductive charging, which is no longer subject to EU laws.
