iPhone 15 Dominates Q3 2024 Smartphone Sales as Samsung Returns to Top 10

iPhone 15 Dominates Q3 2024 Smartphone Sales as Samsung Returns to Top 10
  • The novelty from Apple is once again among the best-selling smartphones in the world
  • Apple thus maintained its position year-on-year
  • The flagship Samsung made it to the TOP 10 for the first time since 2018

There is probably not much doubt that the iPhone has long been among the most popular smartphones in the world. After all, this statement is also proven by the numbers of many renowned companies. This time, the company Counterpoint Research, whose data is among the most reliable, gave us an insight into the sales in the third quarter of this year. They reveal a rather unsurprising finding – the iPhone 15 is the best-selling smartphone in the world, closely followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 15 Pro taking third place.

iPhone 15 rules sales in Q3 2024

The following four places were won by Samsungs, namely the Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A35 5G and Galaxy A05 models. In eighth place we find last year’s iPhone 14 model, ninth place belongs to the Redmi 13C 4G and the TOP 10 is again closed by Samsung, this time with the Galaxy S24 flagship model. These 10 smartphones accounted for a respectable 19 percent of total sales in the September quarter. The presence of a flagship model from Samsung is also interesting – it made its way into the top ten best-selling devices in the third quarter for the first time since 2018.

A comparison with last year’s situation also offers an interesting perspective. Even in this case, iPhones dominated the first three places, but the iPhone 13 model held on to fourth place. However, this is not such a surprise considering that there was not as big a jump between the basic iPhones as it is in the case of this year’s generation. The fifth to eighth place was once again taken by Samsung, namely the Galaxy A14 4G, Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A04e models. Ninth place belongs to the predecessor of the current Redmi, specifically the 12C 4G model, so it managed to defend its position year-on-year. Last year’s ranking is again closed by Samsung, but in this case with the Galaxy A34 5G model.

What is less visible is the transformation of the market, which has become more oriented towards more equipped smartphones. This is also opposed by the manufacturers themselves, who offer various bonus programs, such as a reduction in the price of a new device when buying an old one, or various discount events.

The Smartphone Showdown: iPhone vs. Samsung in Q3 2024

Well, here we are, folks! It’s a brand new quarter and guess who still reigns supreme in the smartphone universe? That’s right, Apple with its iPhone 15 jogging in the lead, flexing like it just finished an Olympic sprint without breaking a sweat. Yes, the numbers are in and surprise, surprise, iPhone fans can rejoice once again as their beloved gadgets dominate the sales charts like a cat on a Roomba—completely and utterly unbothered.

iPhone’s Unstoppable Reign

According to research from Counterpoint—now there’s a name that sounds like it has authority!—the data shows that the iPhone 15 topped the charts, followed closely by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Pro. It’s like the ‘Avengers’ of smartphones, and boy, do they have a full house. Selling 19% of all devices in the September quarter is no small feat, especially when you consider it took a madman like Lee Evans to make “running about like a lunatic” a valid form of exercise! But you know what? Apple’s marketing team has the agility of a cat waiting for a laser pointer to flicker.

Samsung’s Comeback Story

Meanwhile, in a plot twist that would make even M. Night Shyamalan proud, Samsung’s flagship model finally squeezed into the top 10 for the first time since 2018. Like a comeback album by a band that’s been off the radar longer than you can remember, they’re back, baby! The Galaxy S24—the David Blaine of smartphones—magically reappeared and took the tenth slot. It’s like they suddenly realized that ‘the game’s afoot,’ and decided to put their best foot forward.

A Comparison with Last Year: Same Old Song?

Let’s take a moment to travel down memory lane, shall we? Last year’s sales figures show that, shockingly, iPhones still led the pack with the iPhone 13 holding on like your mate who doesn’t know when to leave the party. Samsung’s A-series phones filled out the rest of the leaderboard. It seems that while Apple remains busy crafting their latest iterations, Samsung’s holding onto their anchors like a boat desperately trying to avoid the inevitable sinking.

The Market Transformation

Now, let’s get into something juicy: the market transformation! As smartphones evolve like a Pokémon into a Charizard, manufacturers mystically extend various discount programs to entice buyers. You’d think it’s Black Friday every day of the week! Trade-in offers and discounts online are rampant, and you just can’t help but feel like you’re this close to winning the lottery every time you upgrade your phone. It’s a strange twist in a world where the price of a new device often equals a small house deposit!

Conclusion: The End is Not Nigh for Apple

So, what does this all mean? Well, folks, it looks like the war between Apple and Samsung isn’t going to end anytime soon. With Apple’s consistent game of “Who’s got the better phone this year?” and Samsung clawing its way back into the game, we can only expect more excitement—and the occasional chuckle—as these tech giants battle it out. So grab your popcorn! Or should I say, your latest smartphone? Who knows, the next quarter might just flip the script on all of us.

  • Apple’s latest release continues to dominate global smartphone sales
  • Apple has successfully preserved its sales leadership compared to previous years
  • Samsung’s flagship entry into the market marks a significant return to the TOP 10 since 2018

There is little doubt that the iPhone has established itself as one of the most sought-after smartphones globally. Renowned analysts affirm this assertion through robust data. Counterpoint Research, recognized for its reliable analytics, recently shed light on smartphone sales trends during the third quarter of this year. The findings revealed what many anticipated: the iPhone 15 has emerged as the best-selling smartphone worldwide, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro following closely behind in second and third positions, respectively.

iPhone 15 leads the market in Q3 2024

The next four positions in the sales rankings were secured by various Samsung models, including the Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A35 5G, and Galaxy A05. Notably, last year’s iPhone 14 held the eighth spot, while the Redmi 13C 4G took ninth place and the Samsung Galaxy S24 flagship rounded out the TOP 10. Together, these ten smartphones accounted for a remarkable 19 percent of total sales in the September quarter. The inclusion of a flagship Samsung model in the top ten is particularly noteworthy—this marks the first time a Samsung flagship has reached this rank since 2018.

A comparison with last year’s figures provides additional context. In this instance, iPhones again occupied the top three positions, with the iPhone 13 securing fourth place. This retention was expected, as the transition between basic iPhone models this year is more pronounced compared to last year’s iterations. Samsung’s devices claimed the fifth to eighth slots with the Galaxy A14 4G, Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A04e. The Redmi 12C 4G managed to retain its ninth position, showcasing its durability in the market. Closing last year’s rankings was the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G.
