No “revolution”, no surprises, no unexpected devices. During its traditional end-of-summer conference on Tuesday evening, Apple did not present any major innovation around the iPhone 15 and connected watches. But a development expected for months, even years: the transition to the USB-C connector for its iPhone 15.
This is much more than a technical change. For two reasons. First, without obviously saying it openly, the multinational led by Tim Cook is giving in to the European Commission, which has wanted to impose a universal charger for a very long time. Excluded, replied Apple, which managed to save a lot of time. The European Union has wanted a single charger for thirteen years to reduce the mountain of different connectors, but in the name of “innovation”, the Apple brand has carried out intense lobbying to delay this decision. But with European regulations coming into force in 2024, Apple has folded. Gone is the proprietary Lightning port, launched in 2012, in favor of USB-C for new phones.
