The iPhone 12 is banned for sale because of too powerful waves. But what should you do if you have a device of this type?
This Tuesday, September 12, the National Frequency Agency asked Apple to withdraw its iPhone 12 from the French market following an excess of the specific absorption rate (SAR) limit observed on this model. In short, the device emits a quantity of waves which exceeds the limits set by regulations.
The Minister Delegate for Digital, Jean-Noël Barrot, declared that he was ready to order a recall of all iPhone 12s in circulation in France, if Apple did not reduce the power of its devices.
“The iPhone 12 only slightly exceeds the electromagnetic wave emission standard. Its specific absorption rate (SAR) is 5.7 watts per kilogram while the threshold is 4 W/kg,” he said. explained Jean-Noël Barrot.
L’@anfr found that the iPhone 12 was emitting a level of waves slightly above the allowed threshold.
This level is more than 10 times lower than the level at which there might be a health risk.

A special update should be enough
“The energy levels carried by electromagnetic waves can vary depending on software updates. The software update of the iPhone 12 will bring it back into compliance,” explains Jean-Noël Barrot.
So there’s no need to go to an AppleStore to hope to get a new phone.
A simple specific update will be carried out within two weeks.
No danger while waiting
While waiting to carry out the update which will allow the device to regulate its waves, smartphone owners can continue to use it without danger.
Exceeding the threshold is not dangerous. “It is 10 times lower than that at which there may be repercussions on the consumer,” specifies the minister.
