Also iAppleBytes checked speed of iOS 17 on the same smartphones and compared it with iOS 16.5. That’s what came out of it.
- The iPhone XR running iOS 17 beta 1 was pretty fast, but opened some apps literally a fraction of a second slower. And so it was in standard applications like Mail, and with the superapp VKontakte and Subway Surfers. As a result, Geekbench gave results of 8249 to 7910 points in favor of iOS 16.5.
- The iPhone 11 has exactly the same picture: with stable iOS 16.5, it launched applications a little faster than with iOS 17 beta. iPhone performance with iOS 17 beta 1 increased: Geekbench showed an increase of 500 points in favor of the new OS (13,024 vs. 13,571).
- iPhone 12 with iOS 17 worked without any problems and freezes. Both standard programs and games quickly launched. However, Geekbench considered that iPhone speed with iOS 16.5 a bit higher.
And here iPhone 13 after installing iOS 17, as it seemed to me in the video, visually became a little slower: it opened almost all applications for a moment longer. Although the benchmark showed an increase in favor of the new version of iOS.

In general, the system works very well for the very first beta version. I have a claim to the speed of work only to the launch of Spotlight – as in older versions of iOS, it starts with a wild delay. iOS 16 and iOS 17 are no different visually, so you won’t see a difference. At first I even thought that the iPhone was not updated and got into the settings to check! There are no external enhancements that distinguish it from the previous version – this must be borne in mind. Don’t rely on interactive widgets either. So far, only built-in applications have them, while third-party ones have yet to be updated by developers under iOS 17. So, if you really want to try all the new features of the operating system, it’s better to wait a little while the programs are being optimized, and small glitches, like with the input field in Telegram, will be corrected.
I completely agree with Kirill: the new iOS does not have outstanding features, and in addition, the test build clearly has a bunch of flaws that will surface sooner or later.
