iOS 17.2 will allow you to record spatial videos on iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max

Launched earlier today, the second beta version of iOS 17.2 brought a feature dedicated to the iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max: support for space video recording — designed to be compatible with the Apple Vision Pro.

To activate the feature, simply open Settings, then go to the “Camera” option, select “Formats” and activate “Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro”. Once this is done, an icon with the Vision Pro silhouette will appear in the bottom left corner of the Camera app’s video capture interface.

Apple recommends holding your iPhone steady in landscape (horizontal) orientation for optimal results when recording. Videos are filmed at 30 frames per second in 1080p resolution, consuming approximately 130MB of storage for every minute captured.

Spatial video capture on iPhone 15 Pro has been added in iOS 17.2 beta 2!
It is currently locked to 1920×1080 at 30 FPS and must be shot in landscape.

Although it is possible to view spatial videos on iPhones, the real experience is reserved for the Vision Pro — they, however, will not be displayed in full screen by default on the headset. Apple advises caution when expanding it, claiming that excessive movements might cause discomfort.

Apple explained at WWDC23 that Vision Pro will use these photos and videos to transport users back to special moments, providing a more immersive experience than traditional content. The headset, it is worth remembering, is scheduled for launch in early 2024.

Earlier, we commented that the new beta version of tvOS 17.2 also brought support for 3D movies to the Apple TV app, indicating preparation for the arrival of Vision Pro.
