Mixpanel, a company specializing in user analytics and tracking, shows that iOS 16 managed to find its audience (like every year) with just over 65% market share as of December 9, 2022, almost three months following its official release.
No more iPhones put aside
While iOS 15 took over the list of iPhones compatible with iOS 14 and iOS 13 (which excluded the iPhone 6 and 5S), iOS 16 puts several models on the side: the system does not work on the 1st generation iPhone SE , on the various iPhone 6S and on the iPhone 7. These exclusions obviously reduce in part the possible market shares for iOS 16, but the figures from Mixpanel indicate that iOS 16 is installed on 65.88% of iPhones, iOS 15 on 26.45% and older versions on 7.67% of devices in circulation.
Mixpanel’s figures are taken from websites and applications, and normally allow you to have a fairly accurate view of the market at a moment’s notice. t. It can be noted, looking at the graphs, that the rate of installation of betas of iOS 16 is quite low (around 1%) and that the curves of iOS 16 and iOS 15 only crossed towards November 16 (a good fortnight following the release of 16.1).
iOS 16.2: a release candidate, with big new features
Finally, we can assume that iOS 16.2 (which adds a lot of features) should give iOS 16 some extra points. At the end of its “commercial” life, iOS 15 equipped, for example, around 89% of iPhones, before descending inexorably.
