Apple released the second beta version of iOS 16.4 and, in addition to the excellent news that we will have support for 5G SA in Brazil, the update arrives with other very welcome secondary news!
There’s the return of the “page turning” animation in the Books app, mentions of Apple Music Classical, as well as other minor changes!
Let’s confer them?
Classic animation in the Books app
Anyone who likes to have a little bit of the feeling of turning the page of a physical book when reading digitally certainly didn’t like it when Apple removed this detail from the app Books (Books) — so-called animation Curl — and replaced it with a more discreet one in iOS 16.
Everything indicates that Apple regretted the change, as it was reintroduced in the new beta. Now, there is the option of either not using an animation or opting for one. Curl or the slide transition (slide) — which is the current default.
Mentions to Apple Music Classical
After purchasing the streaming service PrimephonicApple announced the development of the Apple Music Classicala kind of offshoot of traditional Apple Music only intended exclusively for playing classic music.
Everything indicates that this concept of branching will be taken literally, since mentions of the future app found by MacRumors in the codes of the new beta of iOS 16.4 indicate that the user will need to have Apple Music installed on the device to listen to songs in “Classical”.
It is still unclear when the app — which was promised last year — will actually arrive. It might be that it arrives in iOS 16.4 itself, as well as another minor iOS 16 update, or just in the future iOS 17.
AppleCare+ device coverage
Currently, you can see coverage details for devices paired to iPhone individually in the “About” section — either in the Apple Watch app or in the section that appears in the Settings app when a pair of AirPods is connected.
From the first beta of iOS 16.4, they also started to appear in a section “Roof”, dedicated specifically to products covered (or with expired coverage) by AppleCare+. In the second beta, the section gained a welcome addition: the icon for each of the devices.
As the new menu includes iPhones and other devices that may be covered by AppleCare+, it is likely that some Beats headphones will also be shown in this list.
Apple Pay in South Korea
According to 9to5Macthe code for the newest beta version of iOS 16.4 indicates that the Apple Pay is ready to arrive in South Korea. The launch was scheduled to take place last year, but was delayed following demands from the local regulatory body for Apple to review the platform’s terms and conditions to comply with the country’s laws.
Other news
Other minor novelties found were:
- O app Podcasts gained a new home screen informing the changes promoted in the first beta;
- On iPhones 14 Pro, the option to enable or disable Always On Screen appears below (not above) options for showing wallpaper and notifications;
- 5G SA is also coming to the Japanese operator SoftBank.
O YouTuber Aaron Zolo also published a video with most of these news. It is worth taking a look:
