GENEVA, Switzerland, November 29, 2024 -/African Media Agency(AMA)/- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) launches its first-ever Center for Innovation, a dynamic platform and financing mechanism designed to provide solutions transformative solutions to global migration challenges and contribute to improving the global migration system. The Center will help IOM achieve its main objectives: saving lives, finding solutions to displacement and promoting pathways to regular migration.
“Innovation and learning are at the very heart of IOM’s strategic approach to addressing ever-changing migration dynamics, and help ensure that we reap the many cultural and economic benefits that come from migration and migrants,” said Amy Pope, IOM Director General. “Our new Center for Innovation provides a platform for the co-creation of sustainable and impactful solutions proposed by IOM, our partners, communities and migrants themselves.”
Whether through the creation of a circular model for managing e-waste in displacement contexts in Uganda, or through the development of an innovative outpatient system to provide neonatal care in remote areas of Nigeria, there is endless possibilities for innovation in the field of migration.
The new Center’s first priority will be to find strong partnerships and engage with a global community of changemakers to amplify the reach and effectiveness of migration solutions.
“We invite partners from all sectors to work with us to implement, pilot and scale innovative solutions that will have a lasting impact on the global migration landscape,” said Ugochi Daniels, IOM Deputy Director General for operations. “Ultimately, the Center aims to accelerate outcomes that will save lives and protect people on the move, find solutions to displacement, and facilitate pathways to regular migration. »
More than a funding mechanism, the Center also provides targeted technical, mentoring and capacity development support through the INCKED @ IOM initiative – the Capacity and Knowledge Development Initiative for innovation. Created in collaboration with the UNICEF Office of Innovation, it trains innovators on topics such as systems thinking, anticipation, human-centered design and business modeling. This initiative aims to empower innovators to use innovation as a tool to address the complex challenges of migration, while fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration.
The Center is launched alongside knowledge management strategy of IOM 2024-2028, which aims to strengthen IOM’s approach to knowledge management. This strategy ensures that lessons learned and good practices are systematically taken into account in decisions and programming. The strategy also aims to address knowledge management gaps identified by IOM staff during consultations, as well as to define a clear vision to strengthen knowledge sharing and help improve outcomes overall of the organization.
The Knowledge Management Strategy 2024-28 plays a central role in the implementation of the IOM Strategic Plan 2024-2028, which establishes learning and innovation as key enablers in achieving the IOM’s strategic objectives. ‘Organization.
