Invima alert for its fraudulent sale

The National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima) raised a health alert on account of four cough syrups for children, which are being marketed without a health registration.

These are the products Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, MakoffBaby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup, whose quality is substandard, detected in The Gambia and notified to WHO, which do not meet quality standards or characteristics established techniques.

According to him Invimathe manufacturer of these syrups -Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited, of India- has not guaranteed to date the OMS the safety and quality of these products.

In addition, he added that “the analytical tests carried out by the WHO Center for Surveillance and Monitoring of Substandard and Falsified Medical Products, with the samples of each of the four products confirm that they contain unacceptable amounts (out of specification) of the diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol contaminants”.

“According to current health regulations, these are fraudulent products that, since they are not covered by a health registry, do not offer guarantees of quality, safety and efficacy, representing a risk to the health of consumers. Additionally, its actual content, traceability, storage and transportation conditions are unknown,” reads the alert.

Finally, the institute called on citizens to always verify the product’s health registration number before using it, verifying its authenticity in this linkselecting the type of product as a group (medication, dietary supplement, etc.), choosing from the search options by product name, health registration or active principle.
