Investment in solar energy is record in Brazil

The notable demand for solar energy has put Brazil on the map of investors and entrepreneurs. Privileged with a high incidence of solar radiation, the country might prove to be one of the leaders in what is one of the markets with the highest growth in recent years.

Solar energy has already brought more than R$ 120.8 billion in investments to Brazil, surpassing wind energy and becoming the second largest source of the Brazilian electricity matrix, according to data released by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) and the Brazilian Association of Solar Energy (ABSOLAR) . According to Absolar, this market has already generated more than R$36.6 billion in revenue for the country and created more than 690,000 jobs.

Everything indicates that such growth will be further driven by the exemption that ended on January 6th, thus stimulating the installation of photovoltaic panels on residential roofs, buildings, companies and rural areas.

“The advancement of solar power in the country is fundamental for the social, economic and environmental development of Brazil. The technology helps to diversify the electrical matrix, increase supply security, reduce pressure on water resources and protect the population when the electricity bill is high”, explains Douglas Andrade, owner of the company Solar Power Photovoltaic.

The sector has more than 7 GW in centralized energy generation made up of large photovoltaic plants. This market represents approximately R$31.3 billion in investments and more than 212,000 accumulated jobs, in addition to offering collections of more than R$10.8 billion, according to Absolar.

The entrepreneur also warns of the need for the national government to update its public policies, thus avoiding the risk of missing the best timing of opportunities. “Those who have already been working in the market have seen demand grow month following month. Installations of solar panels on residential and commercial rooftops confirm forecasts for widespread growth. “Our country has one of the best “solar resources on the planet”, he points out.

However, there is still a lack of good public policies for us to aim for solar leadership worldwide”, says Andrade. For Brazil to become the sustainable power it craves, even appearing as a potential market leader, it will be necessary to invert the logic of the energy policies implemented in the national territory.

“It is necessary to reduce subsidies, incentives and exemptions for fossil sources and increase support for clean and renewable sources. It is in this direction that the world is heading and that is what Brazilian society and the international community expect from our leaders, that is, a state project aligned with a development that is already established as inevitable”, concludes the entrepreneur
