Hearings on the storming of the US Capitol are underway in Washington, DC. But Donald Trump is also under investigation in Georgia.

Washington, DC — Nearly two years ago, Donald Trump lost re-election to the presidency to Democratic rival Joe Biden. Trump left office with a loud bang: in addition to unfounded allegations of electoral fraud, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington in early January.

After that, things did not get quiet regarding the former President of the USA. Since then, investigations and public hearings have investigated possible criminal activities, including the US Capitol storming committee. Only recently, Cassidy Hutchinson’s statements caused a stir. Apart from that, there is a hearing in Georgia that might provide the basis for an indictment of the ex-president.

Donald Trump: Jury summons Georgia attorney team

According to the British newspaper The Independent This week, a jury investigating alleged interference in Georgia’s 2020 election results subpoenaed some of Trump’s then-law team. Also there is Trump’s then-lawyer Rudy Giuliani, whose license was provisionally revoked for making false claims regarding the 2020 presidential election. Other people have also been summoned:

  • John Eastman
  • Cleta Mitchell
  • Kenneth Chesebro
  • Jenna Ellis
  • Lindsay Graham

USA: Subpoenas for alleged voter fraud – investigations are progressing

The current subpoenas are the clearest sign so far that the investigation is making progress, said Norman Eisen, a former special adviser to the House Judiciary Committee. “This is probably a sign (…) that there is a lot of legal danger for Trump and his associates,” he told The Independent. The investigations in Georgia are the “greatest legal threat” for Trump and his supporters.

Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis expects the jury to return subpoenas to Trump associates. “Anything is possible,” she told NBC News. “I guess people thought we were playing some kind of game. This isn’t a game at all. What I do is very serious. It’s very important work. And we will do our due diligence and make sure we investigate all aspects of the case.”

Donald Trump: Will the candidacy for President 2024 wobble?

One person in particular is outraged by the subpoenas – Donald Trump himself. “I did NOTHING wrong in Georgia, but others did. They cheated in the 2020 presidential election and these are the ones who should be investigated (and prosecuted),” he wrote on his social network Truth Social on Thursday (July 7).

In any case, a criminal complaint for interfering with the election might thwart plans for a renewed candidacy for US President in 2024. More and more former advisers are already turning once morest Trump. (cheese)
