Investigation Ongoing: Fires at Youth Protection Service and CHRH Buildings Trigger Emergency Response

It was around 9:30 p.m. when the firefighters of the Hemeco zone were notified that a fire had broken out once morest the facade of the building of the Youth Protection Service, impasse Saint-Jacques in Huy. Shortly before, a car parked in the parking lot in front of the institution caught fire. Above the car was an open tilt-and-turn window. The smoke and flames entered the building and triggered the fire detection system. The men of the fire were therefore quickly informed of the facts. Emergency services arrived on the scene and immediately extinguished the fire. Smoke came inside. The firefighters therefore also ventilated the interior of the Youth Protection Service. Soot slightly damaged the building. The vehicle was taken away for analysis by the federal police laboratory.

As a reminder, in mid-April, a fire of the same type occurred in this car park. Three vehicles were hit by the flames. The Huy police have been informed of the facts. The Liège public prosecutor’s office, Huy section has also been informed. The magistrate on duty appointed a fire expert. The latter will descend on the spot to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire.

A few hours later, shortly following midnight, the CHRH buildings experienced the same scenario. This time, the fire was put out to a trash can that had been surrounded by pallets. The fire also started just below an open tilt-and-turn window. Smoke also entered the building. Fortunately, paramedics quickly arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. The bin was placed on the side of the administrative services, but the wings where the patients are communicate. No resident was impacted by the facts. The Huy police will carry out the usual checks. Tapes from city surveillance cameras are going to be analyzed. No lead is ruled out. The investigation is ongoing.
