Nothing of interest in the investigation of the Killers of Walloon Brabant was found during the search carried out in January at the home of Robert Beijer in Thailand, where he has lived for many years, the prosecution said on Tuesday. federal, confirming information from The Last Hour. He will therefore not be heard by the investigating judge for the moment.

In January, investigators, the investigating judge and a federal magistrate were sent to this Asian country to assist in the search of the residence of this former policeman, whose name was mentioned several times in the investigation of the Killers of Walloon Brabant. The descent had been planned for some time but had been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We might not refrain from going to search there since the federal prosecutor’s office promised to do everything, technically and humanely, to clarify this file. A series of objects were seized by the Thai police at the request of Belgium. It took time to receive them, to analyze them. They did not give anything interesting so Mr. Beijer will not be auditioned for the moment”, justified the spokesperson for the federal prosecution Eric Van Duyse, specifying that his arrest and his expulsion had never been requested by the Belgium.

During the search in question, the Thai authorities had discovered that the former policeman did not have all the documents required to live in Thailand and was therefore illegally residing there. They had therefore arrested him, then imprisoned him for three weeks before sending him back to Belgium in February.

An imprisonment that should not have happened, according to the advice of Robert Beijer. “He needed a safe-conduct to return to Belgium and the federal prosecutor’s office was slow to give authorization to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Belgium is responsible for his stay when he did nothing and always cooperated with the investigation”, denounced Me Pierre Chomé.

The name of Robert Beijer, a former policeman sentenced in 1995 to 14 years in prison for the murder of a diamond merchant, came up regularly. But the person concerned has always denied his involvement in the investigation of the Brabant Killers. An organized gang killed 28 people between 1982 and 1985 in a series of robberies. This case remains one of the biggest criminal mysteries in the country because no one responsible has ever been tried.
