The prosecutor’s office in West Flanders, Kortrijk division, has opened an investigation into three guests who allegedly urinated on a police suit at the birthday party of Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne, the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reported on Wednesday. The vehicle was parked near the Deputy Prime Minister’s residence to deter potential troublemakers. The prosecution confirmed the information to Belga. The police and the prosecution confirm that the minister did not witness the alleged facts that occurred following the party.

On August 14, Minister Van Quickenborne hosted his birthday party at his villa in Kortrijk. Three people are said to have left the event before urinating once morest the police suit. The trio were filmed by a camera set up in the street, another security measure to protect the minister. The latter has been placed under police protection since he received threats, like other political figures.

The prosecution confirmed that a report had been drawn up and that an investigation was underway for contempt. Since the local police zone is directly concerned, the investigation is carried out by another police zone. The cabinet of the elected Open Vld informs that the minister himself was not present during the events and that he “obviously strongly disagree” this behavior. “If the police have made findings, they should be followed up“, he asserts.
