He dreamed of being a journalist, of writing books, but Théo (23 years old) finds himself before the criminal court of Hainaut, division of Mons, to answer for possession and dissemination of images of a child pornography nature.
Théo says he was looking for meaning in his life. “I watched a series on Netflix, Black Mirror. In one episode, someone was hunting pedophiles. I then did some research on the Internet, because it interested me,” he says. He thus came into contact with child pornographers, but he did not report them to the police.
Phone and computer examined
As always, it was the Americans who alerted the Belgian authorities to the activities of Théo, a young man who downloaded around forty images and distributed five of them. His computer and phone were meticulously examined and the files were discovered, along with his contacts via an app.
However, the young man denied the facts, declaring that this application was only used to converse with other young people of his age. On Friday, in court, he confessed, declaring that he intended to hunt down pedophiles.
Towards a favorable measure
The public prosecutor did not request a sentence once morest this young man unknown to the courts. The deputy prosecutor considers that this is an isolated fact, and does not oppose a suspension of the sentencing or a work sentence.
Me Vervaeke, for the defense, specifies that the offense period begins at the start of a confinement which left no one unharmed. At the time, Théo had just separated from his girlfriend, and he took this breakup very badly. Behind his screen, he crossed the red line. He would have been better off writing a fantastic story given his overactive imagination.
Fortunately he didn’t look at Dahmer…
Judgment mid-November.
