The report said police were asked for help from neighbors. Forces were later brought in to inspect a house in a poor west of Rio de Janeiro, “two of the woman and the suspect’s children were tied up, drowning in excrement and starving. Rio de Janeiro police said.

While local media said the mother of three had not eaten for three days several times, and was also the victim of both mental and physical abuse. As a result, the two children were physically no different from those who started their teenage years. And so traumatized that officials thought they might not survive another week if they were in this situation.

The woman who was the mother was so weak that she might hardly speak. But officials also received preliminary information that he was married to Mr Silva for 23 years and that Mr Silva had threatened his family to leave the house only following his death.

Named by authorities as Luiz Antonio Santos Silva – and his wife had been married for 23 years. After being rescued, the mother told authorities the three imprisoned family members would sometimes go without food for three days. /G1 RJ/

Captain William Oliveira of the military police said in comments quoted by Brazilian newspaper O Dia that he initially thought the two were children because of their level of malnutrition. /G1 RJ/
