Written by Heba Al-Sayed Friday, October 27, 2023 06:00 AM Apple has introduced the watchOS 10.1 operating system, which is the first major update to the smartwatch operating system since the launch of watchOS 10 in September. The update includes a number of new features, security fixes, and bug fixes. One of the most notable new features in watchOS 10.1 is the ability to perform a basic action in notifications and most apps with a double tap. This is available on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Urtla 2. The user can, for example, double-tap to answer a call, or play and stop music. The pause, pause, or double-tap gesture is also useful in common situations. The neural engine processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and optical heart sensor using a new machine learning algorithm. The algorithm also detects the unique signature of small wrist movements and changes in blood flow when the index finger and thumb perform a double tap. According to Apple, the double-tap gesture works any time the screen is active, and the feature is available throughout the day with minimal impact on the 18-hour battery life on the Apple Watch Series 9 or the 36-hour battery life on the Apple Watch Urtla 2. Other features are the NameDrop feature, which allows the user to exchange contact information with a new person by simply bringing the Apple Watch near his iPhone running iOS 17 or Apple Watch. NameDrop is also available on the Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 7 and later, and the Apple Watch Urtla. My Card is also available as an add-on for quick access to NameDrop. To update to watchOS 10.1, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to the General tab. Click on Update Software and follow the instructions.
