Introducing the Revolutionary e-Rex Engine: The Advantages of a Two-Stroke Engine Without the Disadvantages

The Spanish company INNengine has just launched an entirely new engine: a one-stroke engine… with all the advantages of a two-stroke engine. By definition, as the site indicates New Atlasthis new engine dubbed e-Rex is indeed a two-stroke engine, that is, it has two movements (two strokes) in its combustion process.

However, unlike most conventional two-stroke engines, it does not burn oil and does not need to use its own motions to lubricate or cool itself. These operations are carried out separately, as is the case for a conventional four-stroke automobile engine.

The one-beat waltz

Specifically, in the INNengine e-Rex, as in a two-stroke engine, there is only compression and combustion, intake and exhaust occurring simultaneously. This 500cc engine is also more powerful (126 horsepower), despite its compact size, and more thermodynamically efficient than four-stroke engines.

On the other hand, it is much less dirty and noisy than conventional two-stroke engine models. This new model therefore has the advantages of a two-stroke engine, without having the disadvantages.

The e-Rex has an opposed-piston configuration in which there are four pistons on each side, eight in all. It offers smooth operation with very little noise and vibration, while the packaging keeps the motor small.

This INNengine engine might be very useful for cars since it would, according to the creator, extend the autonomy of electric or hybrid vehicles, in particular thanks to its low consumption and its compact appearance. It would also reduce battery size and weight and thus provide a better long-distance driving option – especially if it can operate as a multi-fuel option. Since batteries are still the heaviest and most expensive part of an electric vehicle today, “this might be a godsend”concludes the company.
