Bandai Namco and Limbic Entertainment previewed Park Beyond at Gamescom 2022. The future of amusement park simulations is becoming impossible.
Cologne – The genre of amusement park simulations is, in sheer mass terms, very sporadically represented in gaming. the ear. After all, park builders today are dominated by only two big names. Yet this is where Park Beyond wants to tackle. Limbic Entertainment is in the process of creating its own vision of the construction game and should, with Park Beyond, prove to be a little more eccentric than the competition. We got the chance to take a look at it at Gamescom 2022.

Park Beyond: Absolutely impossible roller coasters as far as the eye can see
In Park Beyond, you can (once once more) realize your dream of creating your own amusement park. But where other amusement park sims have you chained to such silly stuff as the laws of physics or passenger safety, Limbic Entertainment’s vision lets you spin truly free. Cannons? No problem ! Cross rails and bumpers that make trains bounce like bumper cars? Have fun! A Ferris wheel on another Ferris wheel on ANOTHER Ferris wheel? All that fun is no problem in Park Beyond – as long as the train doesn’t veer off the tracks in a far too fast 180° turn.

My highlight of Gamescom so far: a construction simulator
In Park Beyond, limitless creativity is in the spotlight, even in absurd proportions. The developers* call this concept the impossibility, thanks to which every idea, even the craziest, must find its place in your amusement park. But for you to build the craziest roller coasters, you need the tools to match – and they make a big impression in Park Beyond. All it takes is learning a few simple drag-and-drop mechanics and a few shortcut keys to be able to create crazy circuits following only ten minutes of play. During our demo session, it was already working surprisingly well.
Park Beyond: Lots of freedom, but so many duties
Wild roller coasters aren’t enough to make a park. In Park Beyond, you’ll always be caught in the crossfire when your advisers, an eccentric architect and a strict-thinking park manager, can’t come to an agreement. Periodically, you will have to make decisions that will influence the construction of your park. Sometimes you’ll have to give up on the next roller coaster invention if it means the park will bring a little more cash into your coffers – without a paw, there’s no new rides.
Some of your decisions will have wider consequences, for example on the target group your park will address. You will therefore have to work with a different selection of attractions and stalls in each scenario. But in Park Beyond, you’ll still have the final say on building the park, and the rest of the community will be able to help you out.
Park Beyond: a lot of tinkering for the current generation of consoles
According to Limbic Entertainment, you can use virtually any asset, wall, pipe, or decorative item to enhance your park attractions. Once you’ve created a nice refreshment stall or souvenir stand, you can save the completed buildings or even upload them to the cloud for other players* to use in their parks. Park Beyond is customizable down to the smallest detail.
However, such creative freedom comes at a price. Park Beyond will certainly be available on consoles, but the latest generation of consoles will be excluded. Besides the PC, only owners of a PS5 or an Xbox Series X will therefore have access to this impossible park simulator. Park Beyond is set to open its doors to ambitious roller coaster architects starting in 2023.
