The management of social media and microblogging platform Twitter has prepared to introduce a new feature to prevent substandard content.
A Twitter spokesperson said in a tweet that the company started working on a feature this year to prevent substandard content, which was tested in June.
The purpose of this feature is to tell users to read any article or tweet before retweeting it.
The company says that this feature is meant to remind users not to share unverified content to prevent the spread of false and baseless rumours.
In a tweet by the company, it is mentioned that this feature is now being introduced in a phased manner.
After the introduction of the feature, when a user retweets an article without reading it, a message will appear in front of him. The pop-up message will read ‘headlines don’t tell the whole story’.
Afterwards, you will be asked if you really want to share it without reading it, then the user chooses to allow it and make the unread article retweet unique.
Management says that the feature was tested in a few countries five months ago, after which it was observed that more than forty percent of users read the article after the message appeared and then shared it, while 33 percent were those who did not. Read the first article and the rest just passed it on.
We shouldn’t have to say this, but you should read an article before you Tweet it. https://t.co/Apr9vZb2iI
So, we’ve been prompting some people to do exactly that. Here’s what we’ve learned so far. ⤵️
