Intrakat is the definitive contractor of the large urban revitalization project of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, with a budget of €24 million, which provides for technical interventions and works on commercial streets in various areas of the city, with the aim of upgrading the public space and highlighting the identity of the commercial areas , with common aesthetic and functional characteristics.
This important contract was signed today, Friday, March 8, by the General Manager of the Intrakat Group, Mr. Anastasios Aranitis and the Deputy Mayor of Technical Works, Environment and Sustainable Mobility of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Mr. Prodromos Nikiforidis. This is the project “Urban Revitalization Interventions for the Economic Reconstruction of local commercial streets in all the Municipal Communities of the Municipality of Thessaloniki”, which foresees a series of technical projects with the aim of upgrading the image of the city and improving its functionality.
The environmental sustainability dimension of the project is important, as the reconstruction of sidewalks using “green” materials, the strengthening of plantings with further greenery or even trees and the addition of urban equipment made of environmentally friendly materials is foreseen. Furthermore, interventions will be made to improve the microclimate and climatic conditions, with the aim of eliminating the urban heat island phenomenon, which is a common problem in the large urban centers of Greece.
On the occasion of the signing of the contract, the General Manager of the Intrakat Group, Mr. Anastasios Aranitis said: “We are particularly happy to undertake the implementation of this very important project, which will contribute to the wider upgrading of Thessaloniki. The project places special emphasis on highlighting the commercial character of the intervention areas, with the emergence of an Open Trade Center, aiming at the functional and aesthetic integration of the local shopping centers of the municipal communities and the qualitative improvement of visitorship.
In addition, the interventions include the installation of new low-energy street lighting to save energy and better energy efficiency, as well as the use of new technologies, more broadly, that will offer the character of a “smart” city. Also, as part of the project, new generation seating areas will be installed, such as benches with chargers powered by photovoltaic panels, while an integrated accessibility network will be created for the safer movement of pedestrians and people with disabilities.
