A French citizen of Turkish origin wanted by Interpol on various serious charges has been arrested.

In this context, the National Security elements at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca were able, yesterday, Friday, September 6, to arrest a French citizen of Turkish origin, 37 years old, who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued against him by the judicial authorities in France.

The person concerned was arrested immediately after his arrival on a flight from Turkey, as his search in the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) showed that he was wanted internationally at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris, in order to serve a prison sentence issued against him.

The arrested foreigner is suspected of being linked to a criminal network involved in drug trafficking, aggravated robbery, as well as the trafficking of items obtained from theft, detention accompanied by physical assault and arson on French soil.

The suspect is also suspected of driving a car without a driver’s license and under the influence of drugs, failing to comply with French police officers and deliberately causing a police officer to be hit.

The suspect was placed under police custody pending his referral to the competent public prosecutor, while the National Central Bureau (Interpol Rabat Bureau), affiliated with the General Directorate of National Security, was tasked with notifying its counterpart in France of the arrest pending extradition proceedings.

The arrest of the suspect comes in the context of the Moroccan security services’ commitment to activating international security cooperation mechanisms, especially the pursuit and arrest of persons wanted internationally in cases of transnational crime.
