Internists and residents intend to go on a comprehensive national strike on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, October 15, 16, and 17, denouncing the Ministry of Health and Social Protection’s “ignorance” of their demands.
According to a statement by the National Committee for Internists and Residents, in parallel with the strike, protests will be organized inside various university hospitals, with the exception of emergency services, recovery and guard departments.
The committee stated that these announced steps come in response to “systematic neglect by the ministry and its officials, which leads to worsening conditions for internal residents and residents, and contributes to the deterioration of the quality of health care provided to citizens.”
In a related context, the Doctors’ Representation denounced what it described as “the government’s continued procrastination and clear irresponsibility in dealing with the demands of this group,” noting that “internists and residents in university hospitals are performing their professional and humanitarian duty in harsh and inappropriate conditions.”
The committee expressed its great dissatisfaction with the “unjustified” delay by the Ministry of Health in responding to legitimate demands (…) despite a series of correspondence and meetings with officials.”
Accordingly, the National Committee for Internal Medicine and Residents renewed its call on the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to “move quickly and respond immediately to the demands, in order to preserve the continuity of health services and protect the rights of internal medicine and residents.”
