The proportion of Brazilians connected grew from 70% in 2019 to 84.3% in 2023. The information is part of the report “Digital 2023: Brazil, de We Are Social e Meltwater”, by Kepios. According to the survey, Brazil reached the milestone of 181.3 million Internet users.
At the same time, data from the research “Global Overview Report”, also by Kepios, produced in partnership with Meltwater and We Are Social, reveal that the connection rate of the population is 64%. In 2012, 2.18 billion people in the country accessed the web, number that jumped to 4.95 billion in 2022.
“More and more, the internet connects people and enables access to entertainment, education and remote work – and no one wants to be left out”, observes Tiago Salema Pereira, a network technician at Multpontos Internet Franca. The company operates with fiber optic internet in Franca, in the interior of the State of São Paulo.
Pereira explains that internet via radio, specifically, allows residents of regions that are not served by the wired network to also access the virtual world. For this, the modality uses a pair of antennas: one in the transmission tower and another in the customer’s home, allowing the transmission and reception of the signal emitted by waves.
“Generally, the regions that use the radio connection the most are rural areas, that is, properties with more difficult access to the internet network”, says the network technician at Multpontos Internet Franca.
On average, 13 million Brazilians living in rural areas do not have quality internet access, according to a survey carried out by the IICA (Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture) in partnership with the World Bank, Bayer, Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), Microsoft and Syngenta.
“For those who live, or even study or work in homes and companies located in more remote places, internet via radio offers a 5.8 Ghz frequency connection with good data capacity”, explains Pereira.
“For many, internet via radio is considered a relevant alternative because it offers a stable connection at an attractive cost-benefit ratio”, he concludes.
