Smartphone retailer Mobilezone announced this week that it has acquired virtual operator (MVNO) Digital Republic to enter the Internet of Things (IoT) market. The price of the acquisition, which will be finalized in 2023, has not been disclosed.
This acquisition makes it possible to develop several strategic priorities of the Mobilezone group. However, it mainly allows the strengthening of the MVNO activity, in the new business sector of the provision of services around the Internet of Things and will thus make it possible to meet the demand of new groups of customers, according to a communiqué.

“Digital Republic has become in a few years the most digital provider for mobile internet in Switzerland. With the acquisition of Digital Republic, we complete our portfolio with an innovative new business sector and at the same time consolidate our status as a supplier of a complete telecommunications offer”. Digital Republic was founded in 2016 by Ali Soy and Marco Arnold and will continue to be managed by them in the future as part of the Mobilezone group. For the 2022 financial year, the profitable company expects a turnover of 4.5 million francs. It employs around 20 people and is headquartered in Zurich. The acquisition will be financed by equity and under existing lines of credit.
Connected objects specialist
Digital Republic specializes in a digital offer geared towards the Internet of Things. The company offers different tariff plans for mobile internet for cell phones, tablets, 4G routers or trackers. Fares are always scaled according to speed.
Digital Republic thus offers complete mobile subscriptions including data usage, telephony and roaming, as well as simple 5G mobile Internet for the home router or digital nomads. Thanks to the adapted customer portal, customers can manage their services themselves. Digital Republic has also been offering the eSIM for a long time.
