Internet network: the areas that remain to be covered will be covered before the end of 2023

The Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Ghita Mezzour indicated on Monday that 9,225 territorial areas in the Kingdom are covered by the internet out of a total of 10,740 areas and this, at the end of the first phase of the Plan. for the development of broadband and very high speed (2018-2023).

In her response to an oral question in the House of Representatives on “the connection of the rural world to the Internet network”, posed by the Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) group, she indicated that the areas which remain to be covered will be covered before the end of next year, revealing that his department is currently preparing the launch of the second phase of this plan, which concerns 1,700 new areas, making sure to detect regions with a deficit in terms of internet coverage.

On a completely different note and in response to an oral question on “the supervision and support of start-ups active in the field of IT”, Mezzour assured that the four Technoparks that exist in the Kingdom currently support 450 start-up with a turnover of 900 million dirhams, 25% of which export their digital products abroad.

She recalled, in this regard, the adoption last week of a new roadmap for the Technoparks network by 2027 during the board of directors of the Moroccan Information technopark company (MITC), the company managing the Technoparks, indicating that the objective is to strengthen the network of Technoparks in the 12 regions of the Kingdom, to support project leaders and start-ups and to market their products as well as to put them in touch with investors and the market interior.
