Internet media male reporter sentenced to one month in prison for swearing at police on National Security Day last year

A male online media reporter was suspected of swearing at a police officer at a street station in Mong Kok last year on National Security Education Day, and was charged with three counts of disrupting order in a public place. He was convicted of one of the crimes in the West Kowloon Court and sentenced Imprisoned for a month.

Magistrate Zheng Nianci said in his ruling that from the footage presented in the courtroom, there were about 40 to 50 people onlookers that day.

The magistrate pointed out that the defendant’s repeated mention of “seven policemen beating people”, “Zhu Jingwei case”, police theft and other cases within 10 minutes will inevitably remind the people present to think of past police officers’ misconduct or the use of improper force. , inciting others to hate the police officers, or causing them to use force and collide with each other, so the defendant was found guilty of disorderly conduct in a public place.

As for the other two counts, the magistrate pointed out that the defendant did not block the police officer’s camera at that time, which did not constitute obstructing the police officer’s duty, and was freed from the crime of obstructing the office. Regarding the crime of refusing to obey the order, the magistrate believed that after the police officer at the scene asked the defendant to “calm down”, the defendant turned around and left within about a minute, and ruled that the crime was not convicted.

The defendant was charged with making a riotous act in a public place in Mong Kok last year with intent to incite others to damage the peace of the society, etc.
