Welcome to the 21st Edition of Accords @ Disaccords!
Mark your calendars, folks! From 11 to 17 November 2024, the charming city of Napoli will be rolled out the red carpet for the twenty-first edition of Accords @ Disaccords, the international short film festival that promises to be more entertaining than a cat meme marathon! With a lineup curated by the cinematic maestros Pietro Pizzimento and Fabio Gargano, this festival is like your favorite Italian dish—rich in flavor and leaving you wanting more!
What’s Cooking at the Festival?
This year, get ready for a tasty feast of 141 short films including documentaries, animations, and experimental wonders from a whopping 27 nations. Imagine that—a veritable United Nations of filmmaking, except with less arguing over who gets the last slice of pizza! Out of the 4,046 submissions received from a staggering 122 countries, many of these cinematic gems will enjoy their grand debuts—both European and Italian premieres—right in the heart of Napoli.
The Competitions
The festival features six vibrant competition categories: international, national, Campania Region, documentaries, short animated films, and films on environmental themes (where yes, the trees are still trying to get their 15 minutes of fame!). Plus, there’s a special section spotlighting experimental films from powerhouses like the US, Germany, France, Great Britain, and Spain—anyone want to hear the existential thoughts of a teabag? No? Move along then!
Adding to the excitement, we’ve got a dedicated section showcasing Italian Canadian cinema, courtesy of the ace Italian Contemporary Film Festival. It’s like having a cultural spaghetti that twirls its way across the ocean, headlining shows in both Italy and Canada! How suave is that?
Festival Details – Don’t Snooze on These!
This treasure trove of talent is set to unfold at the Court of Art of Foqus in the Quartieri Spagnoli—the cultural heart of Napoli—offering free admission, mind you! Yes, you heard that right! Free! Think of it as a buffet for your brain and soul, so no excuses not to waddle on over.
On the final evening, November 17th, prepare yourselves for the crowning glory—an award ceremony where the highlight reel of winning short films will roll. Because what’s better than a good cinematic round-up to finish the festival with a bang?!
Meet the Judges
This year, the fabulous Cristina Donadio heads the jury, joined by the talented director Edgardo Pistone and the sharp-witted journalist Francesca Saturnino, ready to sift through the crème de la crème of films. Additionally, we have a dedicated jury from the AMC (Association of Film and Television Editors) on hand to sprinkle some editing magic on the mix—just remember, no one wants to be the editor who cuts the wrong scene!
And let’s not overlook our honorary jury that includes film aficionados like Guido Lombardi—you know they’ll be fighting each other—for the prize of best film over a slice of Napoli’s famous pizza!
Special Guests & Highlight
Prepare for celebrity spice, folks! The lovely Fabiana Latini will join Gianni Ippoliti on November 14th at 6 PM to unveil the shortest Italian short film: The Door in the Face. Sounds intriguing? Or does it just sound like my usual Tuesday morning routine?

**Interview with Pietro Pizzimento, Co-director of the 21st Accords @ Disaccords International Short Film Festival**
**Editor:** Welcome, Pietro! It’s great to have you here as we gear up for the 21st edition of Accords @ Disaccords. Can you give us an insight into what visitors can expect this year?
**Pietro Pizzimento:** Thank you for having me! This year, we’re thrilled to present an impressive lineup of 141 short films from 27 countries. It’s a diverse compilation that includes everything from animations to documentaries and experimental works. We’ve received over 4,000 submissions, which shows just how vibrant and far-reaching the filmmaking community is.
**Editor:** That sounds fantastic! What distinguishes this festival from others?
**Pietro Pizzimento:** One of our unique features is our blending of international flavors with a strong local essence. Beyond showcasing a global array of talent, we also celebrate local cinema, particularly with our dedicated section for Italian Canadian films. This cross-cultural blending is reminiscent of a good Italian dish—simple, yet with layers of rich flavor!
**Editor:** I love that analogy! Can you tell us more about the competitions at the festival?
**Pietro Pizzimento:** Absolutely! We have six categories that highlight different forms of storytelling, including international and national competitions, as well as a specific focus on environmental themes. This year, we’re also including a segment for experimental films from major filmmaking nations. Our goal is to promote a variety of voices and perspectives in cinema.
**Editor:** With so many films, how will you and the jury manage to choose winners?
**Pietro Pizzimento:** It’s no easy task, but we have a talented jury, led by Cristina Donadio, along with Edgardo Pistone and journalist Francesca Saturnino. Their diverse backgrounds will ensure a well-rounded selection. We have an additional jury from the AMC to lend their expertise in editing, and I think the discussions will be lively—perhaps even competitive over a slice of Napoli pizza!
**Editor:** Sounds delicious! Any special guest appearances to look forward to?
**Pietro Pizzimento:** Yes! On November 14th, we are excited to welcome Fabiana Latini and Gianni Ippoliti, who will unveil the shortest Italian short film, *The Door in the Face*. It promises to be a highlight and reflects our commitment to innovative storytelling.
**Editor:** As we wrap up, why should people not miss this festival?
