Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, will be attending the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in the Dominican Republic. Previously, the country was represented by its foreign minister, Yvan Gil, who held meetings with his Spanish counterpart among others. The summit has resulted in unanimous condemnation of the economic sanctions once morest Venezuela. The President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, and the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will also attend the summit. The Ibero-American leaders were welcomed at the Ozama fortress in Santo Domingo. The summit aims to have concrete results, as stated by the Ibero-American Secretary General, former Senator Andrés Allamand, during the opening ceremony.
The ruler of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, confirmed that he will participate in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government that is taking place in the Dominican Republic, where until he had only been represented by his chancellor Yvan Gil.
The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, will participate in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government that began this Friday in the city of Santo Domingo, as confirmed in the opening ceremony held in the colonial fortress of Ozama.
Until now, Venezuela was represented at the regional meeting by the foreign minister of the Caribbean country, Yván Gil, who held several meetings today, including with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares.
Gil, highlighted that the countries present at the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit expressed, among their agreements, a “unanimous condemnation” of the economic sanctions once morest the oil nation.
“We have requested a condemnation (of the sanctions) and it has been a unanimous condemnation. It has been reflected in the document: the use of unilateral coercive measures is condemned by this summit”, Gil said in statements broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) from the capital of the Dominican Republic.
In addition to Maduro will also arrive in the Dominican Republic the president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves and the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.
The historic environment of the Ozama fortress, the first permanent military structure in America, today welcomed the Ibero-American leaders already present in Santo Domingo.
All of them were received one by one by the President of the Dominican Republic, the host country, Luis Abinader, his wife, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, and the Ibero-American Secretary General, former Senator Andrés Allamand.
“This will be a summit dedicated to the people and aimed at having concrete results,” Allamand said to open the regional meeting, which will have its main day tomorrow with the celebration of the plenary sessions.
