FOREIGN ECONOMY AUSTRIA connects more than 800 participants from over 50 countries – focus on internationalization opportunities – innovation requires openness to technology
Vienna (OTS) – The mobility sector is undergoing massive change, which is being accelerated primarily by three global trends: decarbonization, urbanization and digitalization. With the International Mobility Days 2023, the WKÖ’s AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA brought the mobility of the future to Vienna: The focus was on current developments, innovations as well as export and internationalization opportunities for Austrian companies in the areas of mobility, traffic, transport and mobile services.
Mobility industry as a motor for more efficiency and sustainability
“Mobility solutions made in Austria enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide. Our companies score points with innovation and an uncompromising focus on quality and excellence. This makes them an important driver for greater efficiency and sustainability. The International Mobility Days make these potentials and success stories visible,” emphasized Mariana Kühnel, deputy. WKÖ General Secretary.
The Mobility Days provided a platform for more than 800 participants from over 50 countries – from Malaysia to Germany to Chile – from all areas of mobility. Experts such as Jan-Philipp Hasenberg (Roland Berger GmbH), who showed the path to the fundamental transformation of the mobility ecosystem, provided insights into the future of the industry. In addition to the tried and tested B2B discussions, local companies presented successful practical examples from the areas of mobility infrastructure and charging solutions, smart cities and traffic management & critical infrastructure.
A high-level study also provided an opportunity for exchange, in which experts discussed the challenges in the mobility sector – from automotive to logistics and rail transport to financing options for export companies. “Many of our companies are international technology and innovation pioneers in this area – from hidden champions to international model companies. An export quota of up to 90 percent proves this impressively. “This industry in particular needs competitive framework conditions in Austria all the more, because mobility solutions also have spillover effects into other areas, which trigger innovation and growth and ignite the turbo for a green transformation,” says Kühnel.
The design of Austria as a logistics location in the heart of Europe is crucial for the settlement and success of key sectors and thus for our export economy. “The more competitive Austria is as a logistics location, the more added value the country can gain from the continuing growth in transport volumes. Innovation requires openness, such as technological openness or regulatory sandboxes, in order to try out new things. Because innovation means seeing things from a different perspective. Events like Mobility Day show the diverse, innovative services and products of Austrian companies,” says Alexander Klacska, chairman of the federal transport and traffic division in the WKÖ.
“Logistics is a crucial factor for an industrial location,” stated Sigi Menz, chairman of the federal industry division. Efficient delivery of preliminary products and raw materials is just as crucial to the location as their removal. Whether by road, rail or waterway, every transport route has its justification and is used in different ways depending on the industry. In times of transformation, including in the transport sector, it is important that all variants of transport are secured and maintained, because we need all modes of transport. “Industry is a driver and an important innovative factor in the further development of technologies, because we are not only users, but also producers of transport traffic and transport networks. “The Mobility Days offer an excellent opportunity for dialogue between companies with ideas and solutions,” said Menz, underlining the importance of the event.
