Spain: European champion Suarez dies at 88
Former Spanish midfield star Luis Suarez has died aged 88. In 1960, Suarez was awarded the Ballon d’Or as the best footballer in Europe. He is the only Spaniard to have received this honor so far. At that time, Suarez was playing for FC Barcelona. In 1964 he won the European Championship with Spain. However, he celebrated his greatest successes at Inter Milan. With the Lombards he twice won the European Cup (1964 and 1965). He later went on to become a coach and was, among other things, coach of the Spanish selection from 1988 to 1991.
