Dakar, Dec 3 (APS) – Around thirty stylists and big names in African fashion participated, Saturday, in Dakar, in the international fashion show celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Collé Sow Ardo brand, to the great satisfaction of the Nigerien stylist in particular. Alphadi, for whom it is “a pan-African mixture” to pay homage to the “Queen of woven loincloth”.
Nicknamed ”The prince of the desert”, Alphadi also paid homage to Africa, from north to south, from east to west, by presenting in his collection jellabas on which we find “koko dunda” , the traditional loincloth of Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso), batik or even Malian bogolan, a tribute to Africa, to the king of Morocco, to his country, Niger, and to its people who knew, says it, a coup d’état.
”I pay tribute to Collé’s creative spirit. I am of Berber, Arab, Sonrai and even Wolof origin, an extraordinary mix that combines Africa and Love,” said the founder of the International African Fashion Festival.
”I’m very happy to be here today, it’s a way of showing that what you do here in Senegal has value, peace. I am a peace ambassador for UNESCO. When we are together, we don’t hurt each other,” Alphadi continued.
The oldest Pathé’O from the Ivory Coast offers African jackets or shirts for men in batik patchwork or very light “koko dunda” for women.
The textile of Guinea, composed of ”lépi” or ”sacred forest”, served as a working basis for Talibé Ba, to exhibit his know-how.
Gilles Touré from the Ivory Coast, faithful to his “Fleur” collection, already presented at “Sira vision”, pays tribute to Collé Sow Ardo. ”I usually come to Dakar for Collé. This time, it’s exceptional because it’s 40 years of fashion. She brought everyone together around her and we came with a lot of pleasure,” says Gilles Touré.
Binta Ba from Gabon, Dou Traoré from Mali and Pépitta D from Benin, among others, dazzled the public, who came in large numbers to discover the creations of these established stylists.
Senegalese designers, more than a dozen with familiar names like Louise Turpin who highlighted the fast buses on her hand-made dresses, Thiané Diagne ”Jour J”, Mame Faguèye Ba “the costume designer”, or Lamine Diassé, specialist in men’s suits, Al Guèye, and even the presenter and stylist Eva Traoré were keen to be part of ”this celebration dedicated to the transmission of knowledge in the field of fashion”.
