International event generates millions of dollars in revenue for our country and strengthens meeting tourism

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Paraguay is hosting a major international event, with more than 22,000 people from around the world coming to participate in the International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This important gathering reinforces our country’s position as an attractive destination for international events and promises significant economic impact.

According to the organizers, the event will generate an economic injection of more than 4 million dollars for the country, benefiting various sectors, including transportation, with more than 350 bus units dedicated to the internal transportation of attendees. Víctor Chamorro, director of Meeting Tourism of the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), had highlighted in an interview the importance of these meetings for the local economy, pointing out that meeting tourism has consolidated itself as a key segment.

“Each international congressman leaves an average of 354 dollars per night in Paraguay,” Chamorro said. “This impact, multiplied by the number of nights and visitors, represents a significant contribution to our economy.” In the first quarter of 2024 alone, 17 events of national tourist interest generated 29 million dollars, demonstrating the strategic value of this segment.

The success of the International Assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses reflects Senatur’s ongoing work to position Paraguay as an attractive destination for international events.

Chamorro stressed that these efforts are not isolated, but part of a long-term strategy that includes preparation for other major events, such as the World Rally Championship and the congress of the Latin American Federation of Banks (Felaban) in November, which will attract more than 1,100 leaders of the banking and financial sector.

“Paraguay’s road infrastructure and organizational capacity have advanced significantly, positioning us as a point of reference in the region,” Chamorro concluded.

These types of events bring visitors and contribute significantly to the local economy, reinforcing Paraguay’s image as a destination of excellence for meeting tourism.
