International day against female circumcision

Published on :

February 6th is World Day Against Excision. According to the World Health Organization, more than 130 million girls and women are victims of female genital mutilation worldwide.

This partial or total removal of the sexual organs has very significant repercussions on the physical, sexual, maternal and psychological health of the women who undergo them during childhood. Even if laws prohibit these mutilations, this practice continues in many countries of the world. In Somalia, it is estimated that only two in every hundred women have not undergone female circumcision. Guinea is the second country in the world where women suffer the most sexual mutilation.
