“The execution by the Iranian authorities this morning (Saturday) of the Iranian-British citizen Alireza Akbari is further evidence of their heinous attack on the right to life,” Amnesty said, calling on the British government to “fully investigate” allegations of apparent torture.

France condemned “with the greatest firmness” the execution of Akbari, accused of spying in Iran, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry published on Saturday.

“The chargé d’affaires of the Iranian embassy in Paris was summoned again this morning to express our condemnation,” and warned him that “Iran’s repeated violations of international law cannot go unanswered, especially when it comes to the treatment of foreign nationals arbitrarily detained by this country.” .

He was arrested in 2019 on charges of spying on important information. He was tried before Judge Salawati in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, and was sentenced to death. After rejecting the verdict, he appealed the verdict, and the case was reconsidered in the Supreme Court, which upheld the original verdict and the death sentence against Ali Reza Akbari.
