London (SID) – The English first division football club FC Chelsea struck once more on the last day of the transfer window and signed offensive player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. As the club from the Premier League announced on Friday night, the 33-year-old Gabonese international will come from FC Barcelona and receive a two-year contract in London until 2024. The transfer fee for the former Dortmund player is said to be around 12 million euros (10.3 million pounds).
“I’m very happy. It’s an honor to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start,” Aubameyang is quoted as saying on the club’s website: “I still have a score to settle with the Premier League, so that’s it nice to be back and really exciting.”
Aubameyang only left England and Arsenal FC in January and moved to Spain.
Chelsea also brought in Swiss international Denis Zakaria. The former Gladbach player will join the Blues on loan from Italian record champions Juventus Turin until the end of the season. Chelsea also have an option to buy the 25-year-old.
“Denis is a talented midfielder with a lot of quality and ability. He will enrich our squad this season,” said Todd Boehly, Chelsea chairman.
The 2021 Champions League winner has thus spent around €280m (£240m) on new players this summer with the support of the new owner.
