Podor, September 8 (APS) – The second edition of the international basketball tournament initiated by young Senegalese and Mauritanians with the aim of promoting sporting activities and studies in their respective countries was launched within the Alassane municipal stadium Wade de Podor, noted the APS.
Organized from September 7 to 12, this second edition has the general theme: “Studies and sports”.
“For us, it is about promoting young sporting talents and helping to train young girls and boys for adult life, supporting them to succeed in other sectors of life,” said the tournament coordinator, Thierno Bocar Gaye.
He indicated that two young people were chosen to introduce next Monday, a communication on the theme of the tournament “sports and studies”. »These are Papa Ndiaga Sèye, engineer specializing in solar and Ibrahima Ndiongue, master’s degree graduate. They are former residents of Bocar basketball center (BBC),” said Mr. Gaye, who is also founding president of Bocar Basket Club.
“This Friday, he continued, the sports competitions will begin with meetings between the Bocar basketball club and Dagana basketball club teams, in the girls’ and boys’ minimal categories.”
He added that “six delegations of teams from the Saint Louis region and the Matam region, on the Senegalese side, are taking part in this international tournament.”
Thierno Bocar Gaye specified that he is from Bocar Basketball Center of Podor, Ndioum Basketball Club, Dagana Basketball Club, Rosso Senegal Basketball Club, Gandiol Basketball Club and Matam Academy.
Three Mauritanian teams made the trip. These are two teams from Nouakchott, namely “Sabakha” and “Arafat” and Center Feu Fall Thierno from Rosso Mauritania.
The Senegalese and Mauritanian delegations are staying during this week at the Thierno Mountaga Tall college, at college 2, at the Elimane Baba Dickel Wone school and at the Departmental Vocational Training Center.
