BANGUI, Central African Republic, 23 October 2024 /African Media Agency (AMA)/- With the start of the school year, student safety becomes a priority. It is important to prevent traffic accidents and ensure a safe environment for young road users in Bangui. To this end, the Internal Security Forces, in partnership with the MINUSCA Police, have intensified since the beginning of the month their road safety awareness actions among schoolchildren from different schools in the city.
Students are introduced to good practices, particularly for crossing roads, in order to reduce the risk of accidents.
Germaine Tousinia, mother of a student in CM2 class, testifies: “I am delighted with these initiatives. Every morning I worry about whether my son and daughter will cross the road safely. Raising awareness on road safety gives children guidelines and teaches them to be careful. I think this helps them better understand the dangers and adopt responsible behavior.”
Gbaka Destin, father of a 6th grade student, underlines the importance of these measures. “Before, I often saw motorbike taxis driving too fast near schools. Now, with awareness raising, I see that many drivers pay attention to children. It’s a positive change that reassures me. I hope that these efforts will continue in the long term so that our children can go to school without fear.”he declared.
These awareness campaigns, which should last until December, are not limited only to students. They also include information sessions for motorcycle taxi drivers.
