Both the ruling and opposition parties are in the midst of internal reorganization ahead of next year’s general election.
The People Power Party began work on reform with the launch of the Inyohan Innovation Committee.
The first agenda item of the People Power Party’s Innovation Committee is ‘Great Amnesty’.
The idea is to discuss ways to pardon those who were disciplined, including former CEO Lee Jun-seok, Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo, Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won, and lawmaker Tae Young-ho.
The emphasis is on party harmony and peace.
However, the reaction of some parties is cold.
Former leader Lee Jun-seok made his opposition clear, saying that it is the Innovation Committee’s job to point out the unreasonable things that were done to seize party power, but to approach it in this way, as if being generous, would make the situation worse.
Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo expressed his anger toward the party leadership by posting a series of posts on social media over the past two days.
He said that even if they insulted him by punishing him for nonsensical reasons and offered to pardon him now, he would accept it, and his temper exploded when he talked regarding a presidential pardon.
Targeting Representative Kim Ki-hyun, he asked whether he would have the capacity to lead the general election with a fourth term in a corner of the Yeongnam province, and pointed out that the essence of innovation is the resignation of all leaders who have lost public trust, and whether it would be possible to overcome the impasse without doing so.
At the same time, he wrote that he can start once more with a new force following the general election next year.
It appears that the Inyohan Innovation Committee has faced severe opposition from its first conception.
Meanwhile, there is controversy within the party as Chairman In singled out Representative Kim Ki-hyun and Representative Joo Ho-young, saying that well-known lawmakers from the Yeongnam region should run for office in difficult areas such as Seoul.
The intention is to break away from the image of the Yeongnam Party and achieve a generational change, but some believe that it is feasible.
As part of its first official schedule today, the Innovation Committee will visit the Gwangju May 18 Democratization Movement Cemetery.
Attention is focused on whether the Innovation Committee can achieve its goals, including integration within the party, generational change, and capturing the public sentiment of the Honam region.
