A fire broke out in Interlaken BE early Wednesday morning. A news scout video shows thick clouds of smoke rising into the sky.
The Bern cantonal police received a report shortly before 5.45 a.m. that a fire had broken out in the attic of a garage on Geissgasse. This led to a heavy and widely visible development of smoke. Around 25 members of the Bödeli fire brigade were able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.
Nobody got hurt; an ambulance team was called out as a precaution. There was major damage to the building. Geissgasse was closed for several hours to extinguish the fire. A fire watch was posted for safety reasons. The cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage are the subject of ongoing investigations.
