Vienna (OTS) Thousands of visitors followed the Interior Ministry’s invitation to “Police Day” on October 26, 2023. At Minoritenplatz you might talk to patrol officers, employees of the Federal Training Center for Police Dog Handlers, the defusing service, the emergency unit or the Alpine police inform regarding training, everyday work and the various areas of activity in the police. A concert by the Vienna Police Music Department, a performance by the Cobra task force and a demonstration by police dog handlers and their four-legged colleagues also caused enthusiasm.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said: “I would like to thank all employees who were on duty on today’s national holiday and who demonstrated the range of the police. The great interest of the many visitors showed once once more how much the police profession is in the interest and trust of the people.” Karner emphasized that it was important to paint a realistic picture of the police in order to find suitable applicants. that meet the requirements of the job. “We need people who show initiative and are committed beyond the boundaries of their profession.”

Security festival at the town hall square

At the security festival on Rathausplatz, the Vienna State Police Directorate, together with other aid and emergency organizations, exhibited numerous pieces of equipment and vehicles and organized demonstrations, including those from the Vienna Alarm Department (WEGA).

Strong team, strong job

Police officers are constantly being sought in all federal states. The basic training lasts 24 months and aims to impart the practical teaching content relevant to the professional field and the necessary social skills. It includes a one-year basic training, a three-month professional internship, a five-month theoretical in-depth study with a final service examination and a further four-month professional internship.
