Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order banning the wearing of any religious attire in school / college classrooms till the final verdict in the hijab case. The petition will be considered on the 14th.
Earlier in the day, Single Bench Chief Justice Rituraj Awasthi had recommended that the petition be considered by a wider bench as it has to consider constitutional legal issues and personal laws. Accordingly, a three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice heard the petition yesterday.
A few Muslim students have approached the court once morest the ban on wearing hijab in government colleges in Udupi.
The government’s position is that uniforms are mandatory. As Muslim children argued that the hijab was a right, many Hindu students wore saffron shawls and turbans.
