The MilkLife Soccer Challenge girls’ soccer event for elementary school age is rolling again this time entering Jakarta Series 2 2024 which will last until Sunday (10/11). The participation of female students in the MilkLife Soccer Challenge Jakarta Series 2 2024 event increased more than three times compared to the first series.

This indicates an increase in interest in Indonesian women’s football at an early age. The MilkLife Soccer Challenge has only been held twice in Jakarta but immediately experienced a high increase from schools, parents and female students.

A total of 1,359 female students from 85 elementary schools (SD) in Jakarta and surrounding areas took part in the tournament initiated by MilkLife and the Djarum Foundation Sports Service. The tournament was held at the Kingkong Soccer Arena & Atang Sutresna Kopassus Stadium, East Jakarta.

“We are just at the beginning of this year’s mass scale. From series 1 which was held in eight cities, then series 2 in Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Solo, Bandung, and now Jakarta, the enthusiasm is getting higher,” said MilkLife Soccer Challenge Assistant Head Coach, Asep Sunarya , at Kingkong Soccer Arena, Saturday (9/11).

“More and more schools now know there is a women’s football tournament and they are preparing teams,” he added.

The tournament is divided into 31 age group (KU) 10 teams and 88 KU 12 teams. This number has increased compared to Series 1 where there were only nine KU 10 teams and 25 KU 12 teams with a total of 368 female students participating.

The tournament also maximizes monitoring of seeds because there is a talent scouting team that observes the talents of the participants in each city.

The MilkLife Soccer Challenge event is also coached by Timo Scheunemann as head coach who has a UEFA A coaching license.

The best female students who will be selected will be prepared to form a team to compete against other cities in the KU 12 All-Stars event which will take place in Kudus in early 2025.

According to MilkLife Soccer Challenge Program Director, Teddy Tjahjono, increasing participation in Jakarta Series 2 2024 is a breath of fresh air in efforts to develop women’s football in Indonesia. With the large number of participants, said Teddy, it is hoped that the probability of emerging talents will increase and can continue to be developed.

Teddy said that for women’s football in Indonesia to develop, complete infrastructure development and talent development from an early age are needed. This is the reason why the MilkLife Soccer Challenge targets elementary school and madrasah students as the first step in development. (M-4)
