Instituto Mauá adopts interactive screens and AI devices to support engineering and computing courses

São Paulo (SP), February 15, 2024 – With around 3 thousand students on the campuses of São Caetano do Sul and São Paulo, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, the Mauá Institute of Technology (IMT) invests in high technology to guarantee the availability of the most advanced learning resources. The objective is to train highly qualified professionals prepared for the development challenges of Brazilian cities.

With the support of Seal for Education, a traditional institution implements BenQ’s 86-inch smartboard interactive screens to increase interactivity between teachers and students in a laboratory dedicated to graphic modeling of projects

Mauá Philosophy

Following this philosophy, IMT started looking for a solution to improve its active learning rooms, which have cutting-edge equipment to provide greater dynamics and interaction in groups of up to 82 students. One of these spaces, in particular, is a laboratory based on the BIM (Building Information Model) concept, considered the basis of digital transformation in the architecture, engineering and construction sector.

To enable and expand the use of software with robust graphics resources and that require high quality equipment in this laboratory, IMT put into practice the concept of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). This way, even using any device, students can enjoy the power of an advanced graphics workstation, with the support of an external server that performs all the processing.

To give you an idea, it is through Infraworks, an Autodesk software that IMT runs only in VDI, that students are able to model urban infrastructure and civil construction projects. A resource that allows you to work on the digital representation of the entire life cycle of these projects – from planning to operation.

The challenge, however, was to increase the level of interactivity in the laboratory. With so many visual elements generated from the use of these resources, IMT had the support of Seal for Education – an arm of Seal Sistemas that acts as an integrator of technologies for the educational market – to implement interactive screens.

The use of interactive screens

With the use of 86-inch smartboards manufactured by BenQ, teachers began to use software such as Infraworks just by touching the screen, facilitating the presentation of projects and speeding up the exchange of information with students. The technology, which directly benefits around 500 students, replaced a projection feature that required teachers to remain in front of the computer, limiting mobility and hindering interactivity in the classroom.

“The interactive screen greatly enriches classes and helps to improve the dynamics of active learning rooms. By manipulating the images displayed on the smarboard, teachers are now able to teach much more visual and attractive classes. This is an advanced learning resource that helps us create competitive advantages in terms of digital transformation”, says João Carlos Correa, IT Manager at Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia.

Seal for Education developed all stages of the project involving interactive screens, from the specification and implementation of the equipment to its maintenance and support. Smartboards also have omnichannel features that support remote or hybrid classes, including video calling, gamification and real-time content sharing software.

Machines equipped with AI

The partnership between IMT and Seal for Education also resulted in the adoption of advanced desktops, workstations and notebooks for laboratories and classrooms, with a focus on information systems, computing and production engineering courses. More than 100 units were implemented, including machines equipped with artificial intelligence that use the VDI environment to expand the range of teaching resources for teachers and students.

Among the possibilities that this equipment has brought is the use of solutions such as Nvidia’s Omniverse platform, to create photorealistic simulations of infrastructure and construction projects and even a factory production line, using AI and machine learning capabilities.

The project met the need to provide robust, high-performance equipment to support the development of classes. Seal for Education’s support goes beyond implementation and also includes offering technical support to ensure the proper functioning of all devices, including updating drivers.
