After the trip to Manchester against City, theInter will face the Red Star at home for the second day of the Champions League group. Stefan De Vrij he spoke on Sky Sport to comment on the match against the Serbian team.
How do you imagine the debut at San Siro in this Champions League after the great result against Manchester City? How important are the 3 points?
“Very important. This year the format has changed and every match will be important if not fundamental. We will have to approach well to try to bring home the 3 points.”
Do you think it’s even more important to win all your home games?
“I don’t know the importance, but we know how much San Siro gives us with our fans. We really like playing at home, but obviously we will also try to win away like we did in Manchester.”
In terms of scoring you are doing well, the data on goals conceded is striking. Is there a reason?
“I think there are many factors. We need to see where we can do better, we analyze the matches and train. We know that we have to improve the defensive phase, last year we got everyone used to it very well but we try to improve and grow. Then obviously there are also the opponents. For example, in the goal scored against Monza, the red and whites did a great job.”
You were talking about an opponent, what opponent do you expect? How should Red Star be addressed?
“It’s a Champions League match, the motivation is always there and all the opponents have quality. We have to be energetic, I think we will have the ball often and they will defend well and try to restart. We have to prepare well and attack with balance.”
De Vrij in conference: “It’s important to get back up after the derby”
The Dutch defender also spoke at the press conference: “We need to improve the defensive phase but not only thatthe whole team must grow and we will try to improve in the next matches. In the derby we suffered a bad defeat, it was important to get back up immediately but we were a team and we brought home the victory. The past must be left behind, we cannot talk about two years ago because we are playing a new season. Our start could certainly have been better, but it will be a very long season. Against teams that drop down and get behind the line of the ball we have to try to find solutions for a faster ball turn.” In closing, De Vrij talks about the new Champions League: “It’s all new, every match is very important and can prove fundamental. As we have always done, we must look at one game at a time without looking too far ahead.”
