Inter Miami needed a win on its visit to Sporting Kansas City, after an inauspicious streak of five unsuccessful games that included its elimination from the Concachampions at the hands of Monterrey of Mexico. And, with difficulty, he emerged victorious from a sometimes uphill development and settled, with one more game, at the top of Zone A of Major League Soccer.

The start of the first half was fertile ground for the local team, who seemed determined to attack Gerardo Martino’s team. And with that pressure so high it didn’t take long to cause the error of Marcelo Weigandt, who headed in when he shouldn’t have, delayed a delivery and allowed Tim Leibold to take the ball from him so that Erik Thommy ended up beating Drake Callender after five minutes from the right with a shot to the far post.

However, the Herons managed to even out the actions and begin to gravitate immediately afterwards, already down on the scoreboard. And they achieved equality at 17, when Messi did his thing, seeing Diego Gómez’s sneaky shot from the left to enable it, allowing the Paraguayan to also finish at the far post.

Certainly, the visitor did not face great pressure again, and even came close to going ahead with a free kick from La Pulga that passed centimeters from Tim Melia’s left post. And, although at the beginning of the complement it seemed that the host could repeat the formula, Messi appeared at five to receive a touch from David Ruiz, settle in and take a huge shot to the goalkeeper’s left corner.

However, Kansas did not want to give up and continued to gravitate, to get a goal out of the blue in the 12th when the plugged-in German Thommy volleyed a rebound from a corner and surprised with a shot at the near post that hit the post and went in. But at 25, in a process without respite, Jake Davis made a mistake in an exit, Gómez stole the ball from the left and sent the low center past for Luis Suárez to push through the far post with the goalkeeper halfway there.

Finally, Kansas ran out of gas and Inter was able to rest on the fruits of their hard work, with the only – and not insignificant – concern being the departure due to injury of Jordi Alba, the only low point of a victory that they needed.
